Anthony Davis leaving Washington seems more like a reality, and a return to Los Angeles is not out of the question. When you look at Davis’ own recent comments, along with the Lakers’ current championship trajectory centered around Luka Doncic, the idea starts to feel far more realistic than fantasy.

According to Chris Haynes, Davis could be traded again before next season.

“I do think there’s a good chance that he may end up somewhere else by the time next season starts.”

Davis’ fit in Washington always seems a little awkward. Even though the Wizards made bold moves, they are still not close to being real championship contenders. Davis seems focused on making the most of his prime years instead of playing for a team that’s rebuilding.

Championship Focus

Davis has fueled the rumors himself. In recent interviews, he made it clear he isn’t thinking about retirement and that his main goal is to win another championship. He was even more direct on Draymond Green’s podcast, saying he doesn’t see the Wizards as real title contenders.

For a player of Davis’ status, these comments matter. They show he’s thinking about his legacy and winning, not just staying loyal to his current team. He doesn’t sound like someone planning to stay in Washington long-term, but rather like someone who still wants to compete at the highest level.

Luka Fit

One of the biggest takeaways from Davis’ podcast appearance was his admission that he has always wanted to play with Luka Doncic. That makes the Lakers an obvious destination if Davis is on the move.

Luka’s offensive skills combined with Davis’ defense could make them one of the most balanced superstar duos in the league. Luka plays best with strong screeners and finishers, and Davis does well with top playmakers who can take pressure off him. Their pick-and-roll game would be tough for any defense, and Davis would also help protect the rim and cover defensive gaps.

Why It Works

Bringing Davis back makes sense for both basketball and business reasons. The Lakers would get top-level rim protection, rebounding, and a proven playoff star. Davis would return to a team and city where he’s already had success, giving himself another real shot at a championship.

Now that Luka is the main star, the Lakers have a wide-open championship window. If Washington really considers trading Davis, Los Angeles could be one of the most likely places for him to land.

What once seemed unlikely could now be one of the NBA’s most interesting storylines. Seeing Anthony Davis back in purple and gold might be one of the biggest moves of the summer.
